The America You Didn't Hear About

The founding fathers of this country would be appalled of what this nation has become. Contrary to what the mainstream media will portray, America isn't as glamorous as we all might assume. I have compiled a list of facts provided by the SleuthJournal, that will hopefully open a lot of eyes...

1) Suicide in the U.S. has surpassed car accidents as the number one cause of injury death.
2) More U.S. soldiers committed suicide than died in combat this past year.
3) Americans will spend more than $280 billion in prescription drugs in 2013.
4) About 1 out of 4 women in the United States are taking anti-depressants.
5) The percentage of women taking anti-depressants in the U.S. is higher than anywhere else in the world.
6) In 2010, the average teenager in the U.S. was taking 1.2 central nervous system drugs.
7) Children in the U.S. are three times more likely to be prescribed anti-depressants as children in Europe.
8) Today, there are about 28 million Americans with a drinking problem, and around 22 million Americans use illegal drugs.
9) More people have been diagnosed with mental disorders in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world.
10) Of all industrialized nations, the U.S. is the most obese
11) In 1962, only 13% of Americans were obese. Today, 36% of all Americans are obese.
12) The U.S. has the highest percentage of one households on the planet.
13) About 1 our of every 3 children are currently living in a home without a father. 
14) Women under the age of 30 in the U.S. are having half of all babies being born out of wedlock.
15) The U.S. has the highest child abuse death rate in the developed world.
16) It is estimated that 1 our of every 4 girls in the U.S. is sexually abused before they are adults.
17) The U.S. has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the world.
18) The U.S leads the world in eating disorder deaths.
